NEW STAMP REQUIREMENTS FOR THE REVISED UNIFORM LAW ON NOTARIAL ACTS (RULONA)

For a Notary Public:

  • The official stamp of a commissioned notary public shall conform to the requirements pursuant to Section 14-14A-16 NMSA
  • The stamp must be in 10 point font, contain “State of New Mexico, “Notary Public”, your legal name identically as listed on your Certificate of Commission, the issued commission number, and the commission expiration date as listed on your Certificate of Commission.
  • If the stamp is affixed to a tangible record, it shall be applied in permanent ink and shall be capable of being photocopied; and
  • The official stamp shall NOT contain the New Mexico state seal.

For a Notarial Officer:

  • The stamp must be in 10 point font, contain the words “State of New Mexico, “Notarial Officer”.
  • The Notarial Officer’s name, jurisdiction, and New Mexico state bar identification number if the notary public is licensed to practice law in this state
  • Judicial district or area served if the notarial officer is a judge, court clerk, or deputy court clerk
  • County if the notarial officer is a county clerk or deputy county clerk
  • If the stamp is affixed to a tangible record, it shall be applied in permanent ink and shall be capable of being photocopied;
  • The official stamp shall NOT contain the New Mexico state seal.

The Notary Public Stamp Registration form must be submitted to the Office of the Secretary of State within 45 days of your Certificate of Commission being issued. Failure to do so will result in a referral to the State Ethics Commission.
