The current fires burning in New Mexico have already resulted in changes to how the 2022 Primary Election is being administered in certain areas. As the situation evolves, the Secretary of State’s Office and New Mexico’s County Clerks are preparing for how best to serve the needs of any voters who are affected by the fires. Check back here for updates.

  • MORA COUNTY: Starting Monday, May 23, 2022, Mora County offices will be back to normal (and no longer in their temporary space in Wagon Mound). Early voting will be available at the County Clerk’s office.
  • Certain counties around the state are at risk of fire danger and potential disruption. If you live in the counties of SAN MIGUEL, LOS ALAMOS, or SANDOVAL we encourage you to participate in Early Voting as soon as possible once in-person voting begins at County Clerks’ offices on Tuesday, May 10, 2022.
  • All registered major party voters can vote by mail in the 2022 Primary Election by using an absentee ballot. If you have been displaced by the fires or have preemptively relocated away from your primary residence, we encourage you to consider voting by mail using an absentee ballot. Click HERE to request an absentee ballot online and have it sent to you at the location where you are currently residing. The last day to request an absentee ballot for the 2022 Primary Election is June 2, 2022.
